The Venous Closure® Procedure
Venous closure, also known as Venefit™, VNUS Closure® or radiofrequency ablation, is a minimally invasive, in-office procedure to treat varicose veins. Usually, the procedure takes about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on extent of the problem. Compared to vein stripping, radiofrequency ablations require only local anesthesia, and patients have a minimal recovery time following the procedure, and minimal risk of complications.
We start by numbing the areas of the vein to be treated. We then insert a small catheter, guided by ultrasound, painlessly into the vein. Radiofrequency energy collapses the vein. The collapsed vein is absorbed. Blood is rerouted to healthy veins.
After the procedure, we cover the area with a compression stocking that is left on overnight. You will resume full activity immediately following the procedure, and most patients report relief in pre-operative symptoms immediately after the procedure. Watch this video now:
