Doppler Duplex Color Ultrasound Imaging

An effective, non-invasive way to “see” damaged veins and identify vein problems

To properly treat many vein issues, we must first have an accurate diagnosis. We may use diagnostic tools – including Doppler duplex ultrasound imaging – so we can determine the extent of your vein problems. Doppler duplex ultrasound imaging allows us to obtain pictures of both deep and superficial veins.

What’s involved?

Ultrasound technology is non-invasive and uses high frequency sound waves to produce an image on a screen. Doppler duplex ultrasound combines conventional imaging information and Doppler flow information to help our surgeons evaluate your vein-related issues.

  • A conventional ultrasound shows the structure of your blood vessels.
  • The Doppler ultrasound shows the movement of your red blood cells through the vessels.

What are the results?

Doppler duplex ultrasound produces images that can be color-coded to show our surgeons where your blood flow is obstructed or blocked, as well as the speed and direction of your blood flow.
