Sclerotherapy

A quick, in-office procedure to dissolve problem veins

We use sclerotherapy to effectively treat both varicose and spider veins. The in-office procedure doesn’t require anesthesia and generally takes less than an hour.

Sclerotherapy is often done for cosmetic purposes — to improve the appearance of varicose and spider veins – but sclerotherapy can also help to reduce symptoms such as:

  • Aching
  • Swelling
  • Burning
  • Night cramps

What’s involved?

Sclerotherapy involves injecting a chemical solution into problem veins. The chemical causes the veins to scar and collapse so blood no longer fills them.

What are the results?

Typically, a body will absorb the diseased vein and blood is rerouted to other veins. If you are treated for small varicose veins or spider veins, you can usually expect to see results in three to six weeks. Larger veins may require three to four months. Treated veins generally don’t come back, but new veins may appear.

We will schedule a follow-up visit three weeks after the procedure to check on your progress and decide whether or not you need additional sessions. Some patients require multiple treatments.
