Dr. David Calcagno, co-founder of Calcagno & Rossi Vein Treatment Center in Mechanicsburg, appeared on Good Day PA! on May 8, 2014, just a few days before Mother’s Day.
This was NOT a coincidence.
After he wished all of the Moms in the viewing audience a happy holiday and thanking them for their sacrifice for all they do to become mothers, Dr. Calcagno explained that about 1/3 of all women get varicose veins during pregnancy.
In fact, there are three reasons for this:
- An increase in hormones
- An increase in blood flow and fluids in the body
- Increased pressure on the top of the legs from an enlarged uterus.
While nothing can prevent varicose veins from forming during pregnancy, Dr. Calcagno shared some tips to relieve the pressure of swollen varicose veins. He also invited viewers to call 717-791-2800 to attend a free vein screening on May 20th or 21st. For future vein screening events at Calcagno & Rossi Vein Treatment Center, visit this page.
